It might sound like a whodunnit but we already know... A serious infestation of clothes moths was found on arriving at this baby grand. On pulling the action out there were piles of debris and egg cases, so after much hoovering the action was brought back home, with the piano case being left fully open to allow as much light in as possible. Some major spraying was done to both the action innards (and the car) before it was allowed in the house. Clothes moths like dark spaces like under your bed or wardrobe and will lay their eggs in, and devour, any wool they can find. The egg cases look like grains of white rice...never seen them in a piano before though! Let the clean up begin!...

A neglected Steinway Model S. Brought over from a school in Germany, and definitely in need of some love! A whole new set of keytops, full regulation, repairs, hammer reshaping, and a cracked pedal lyre to be repaired. The remit was to make it playable, not a restoration by any means. |
